New compact system offers professional draught beer for low volume outlets

Micro Matic has launched a mobile, all-in-one beer dispensing system designed for professional operations selling less than 50 HL per year, equalling 17 litres per day.

The unit dispenses draught beer of any brand, giving caterers or outlets like small hotel bars or restaurants a way to offer a deluxe, affordable alternative to bottles or cans. Lower volume venues with traditional dispensing systems can now also avoid the risk of serving flat or contaminated beer.

“Outlets with ordinary systems but small volumes in turnover usually turn out to be uneconomical for breweries,” says Allan Jørgensen, Micro Matic’s Marketing and Product Manager. “Those systems require service staff for installation and maintenance. Beer might sit stagnant in the lines for several days, which over time contaminates the lines and affects the beer quality.”

Unlike ordinary systems, smartDRAFT™ does not need brewery maintenance staff for set-up or cleaning.

Why a new system?
Total beer consumption shows positive trends however draught beer is suffering

In many small outlets we find:
  • Poor beer quality
  • High investment costs
  • High maintenance costs
  • High installation and service costs
  • Low margins
  • Possible human errors
  • Alternative solution
The traditional keg system is perhaps not the best long term solution for draught beer in small outlets

Investigations
70% of all outlets in the world are <50 HL/year
  • 50 HL = 16.6 Litre /day (300 days open)
  • 40 HL = 13.3 Litre /day (300 days open)
  • 30 HL = 10.0 Litre /day (300 days open)
  • 20 HL = 6.6 Litre /day (300 days open)
  • 10 HL = 3.3 Litre /day (300 days open)
Outlets lower than 50 HL/year represent the fastest growing segment in the global brewing industry

Delivering new draught beer drinkers......
As worldwide beer production continues to grow, the opportunities to introduce draught beer in developing and emerging economies and increase draught beer sales in core markets has become a priority matter. Statistics show that 7 of 10 global outlets serve less than 50HL/year and that these outlets represent the fastest growing segment in the global beer market.

With many beer, wine and spirits products to choose from “innovation and differentiation” has become critically important to increasing brand value and gaining market share in outlets where beer is consumed on-premise. This is why smartDRAFT™ has become the logical choice for attracting new draught beer drinkers. smartDRAFT™ delivers a professional and user-friendly draught beer dispensing system that will open new sales channels, create new draught beer drinkers, and re-position draught beer to capture a higher value at the point-of-sale.

Three components
smartDRAFT’s ™ three components keg, tap and cooler keep set-up and operation simple.

The stainless steel smartDRAFT Keg holds 10 litres. An enclosed CO2 chamber eliminates the need for external gas supply. The CO2 does not get in contact with the beer until it reaches the smartDRAFT Tap, the heart of the system. The tap integrates directly into the keg with a short, disposable, one-way beer line. A new beer line is fitted with each new keg, ensuring top hygiene.

The keg is fixed in the smartDRAFT Cooler, which uses innovative technology to chill beer quickly to drinking temperature. An extra  prechiller unit is also available.

“Further, the pre-set, plug and play system does not allow any type of pressure or flow re-adjustment by users, meaning a beer’s presentation will be exactly as it was intended from the brewery”, Jørgensen says.

Micro Matic developed smartDRAFT™ together with keg specialists Schäfer Werke and the beverage cooling experts IMI Cornelius.
